Photographers Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb have the past three decades not only been husband and wife but frequent collaborators. They have shared a life together and well as a passion for numerous subjects, which eventually were published in books including Violet Isle and Memory City.
Slant Rhymes provide these exceptional photographers the chance to not only explore some of the work that has published during their relationship/collaboration but also examines facets of intimate and professional life that they have shared.
Slant and Rhymes is inspired by poetry, particularly with respect to the use of words that do not exactly rhyme but bare strong similarities to each other. The analogy extends to the many paired images found in the book. These photographs share a visual connective tissue which links them,. but each photograph reflects each photographer's unique sensibility and approach to seeing and capturing the image. Their respective voices come through both visually and in the brief anecdotes that are found periodically throughout the book. These vignettes of time shared and apart touch on the moments that offer a glimpse into what is a fascinating and unique dynamic between two talented artists.
Unlike their previous collaborations, this book is not merely a showcase for their collective work, but an opportunity for personal self-reflection. It is both a love letter and a nod of appreciation between two photographers who have not only served as inspiration for countless photographers but also to each other.
