Don Giannatti has been a photographer for nearly 40 years, and has had studios in Phoenix, Chicago and New York. He was a fashion and beauty shooter for the first half of his photographic career, and now adds "Americana" portraiture and travel work to his diverse subjects. Zack Arias is an Atlanta-based editorial and commercial photographer who specializes in portraiture, music and street photography. Despite a failed initial attempt at a professional photographic career, he returned to become an accomplished and respected photographer. The Candid Frame #185 - Ken Light

Ken Light  is a social documentary photographer, and educator, whose work has appeared in books, magazines, catalogues, on-line media and exhibitions. He is the author of eight books including his most recent book, Valley of Shadows and Dreams (published by Heyday, 2012). Additional books include Coal Hollow, published in 2006 by The University of California Press, his text Witness In Our Time; Working Lives of Documentary Photographers was published by the Smithsonian Institution Press in October 2000 and in a revised second edition in 2010. His photo book Texas Death Row University Press of Mississippi was published in the fall of 1997. Texas Death Row is a look at life inside the death house as the condemned wait to be executed in Americas largest and most active Death Row.

He is a professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California Berkeley and 2012 Laventhol Visiting Professor at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He has taught workshops at the ICP in New York City, The Missouri Workshop, Anderson Ranch, the S.F. Art Institute and the School for Photographic Studies in Prague. He was editor of the university of California Press series on contemporary photography and a founder of the International Fund for Documentary Photography which awarded grants to photographers internationally and Fotovision.org anon-profit documentary organization based In San Francisco, California. The Candid Frame #173 - Tom Carter

Tom Carter (1973) is a travel photographer who was born and raised in the City of San Francisco and graduated with a degree in Political Science from the American University in Washington, D.C. Following a political career with a number of high-profile state and national campaigns, Tom decided to "peek over the fence" and subsequently spent 18 months backpacking down the length of Mexico, Cuba and Central America. 

Tom later spent one year in Japan, one year in India, and four years in the People's Republic of China, traveling extensively throughout the country's 33 provinces and autonomous regions. The result was his first book, CHINA: Portrait of a People, hailed as the most comprehensive book of photography on modern China ever published by a single author.

The Candid Frame #169 - Michele Zack

Michele Zack has been a writer/journalist for 25+ years.

In 2011, she joined the The Huntington-USC Instititute on California and the West (ICW) as Senior Advisor, Local History and K-12 Outreach. ICW pairs a great research university (USC) with a great research library (The Huntington) for a number of projects in doctoral education, public outreach, and thematic and innovative investigations of Western History.

Her appointment followed years of work with ICW director Bill Deverell on three federal Teaching American History grants that provide professional development for k-12 history teachers.

Her book Altadena: Between Wilderness and City was recognized in 2005 for excellence by the American Association of State and Local History, and in 2006 she received the Donald Pflueger Award from the Historical Society of Southern California.

The Candid Frame #168 - David duChemin

David duChemin is a world & humanitarian assignment photographer, best-selling author, digital publisher, and international workshop leader whose nomadic and adventurous life fuels his fire to create and share. The Candid Frame #159 - Alan Hess

Alan Hess is a San Diego-based commercial photographer specializing in concert and live-event photography. He has photographed hundreds of concerts three songs at a time. From small club shows to big arenas, Alan enjoys the fast pace of shooting on the fly, the rush of the house lights going down, and the drive to capture the “show” in the images of the first three songs.

The wide variety of bands that Alan has shot include: Billy Idol, Black Eyed Peas, Bruce Hornsby, The Dead, Death Cab for Cutie, Derek Trucks Band, The Grateful Dead, Jackie Greene, John Legend, Marilyn Manson, Robin Williams, Slayer, The Smashing Pumpkins, Steel Pulse, Widespread Panic, Willie Nelson and many others.

Alan’s work has been published in a variety of online and print outlets, including the following: Dead.net, Jambands.com, Jambase.com, Poughkeepsie Journal, Mill Valley Herald, Pauserecord.com, Philzone.com, Photoshop User, Rat-dog.com, Relix Magazine and Vintage Guitar Magazine.

His images have been used for various CDs and other promotional work. Alan is currently the house photographer for a large concert venue in Southern California and when he isn’t out shooting concerts he is writing books.

Alan is the author of six photography books and three books about getting the most from your iPad. He has been the technical editor or content advisor on 12 other titles and continues to write and edit books when not out shooting.
