The Candid Frame #152 - Brian Matiash

Brian Matiash is a professional photographer as well as the Education Manager for OnOne Software. In his role as an educator, he teaches photographers how to improve their photographs and their editing skills with his many webinars, articles and blog entries, but he also has his own passion for photography.

He has specialized in developing and refining his use of HDR (High-Dynamic Range)  to use it not merely as a gimmicky visual effect, but rather as a tool to help him realize his own personal vision of a subject and a scene. The Candid Frame #150 - Tony Di Zinno

Tony Di Zinno is a photographer whose assignments have led him to six continents in over 58 countries. Easily at home on Hollywood's studio back lots and on the foothills of the Himalaya, this self proclaimed 'photo-sherpa' has made his bones on propaganda by producing iconic images for Nike, Adidas and The North Face among others. Now as a faculty member at the Art Center College of Design, near Los Angeles, CA (his alma mater, PHO 89), Tony teaches various hybrid classes multi-discipline in nature. 

 Tony was invited on the board of Mountain to Mountain, a non-profit foundation working on projects in Central Asia, (Pakistan and Afghanistan). Previously, he had worked with M2M curating for a traveling photo exhibit called the 'Views of the Himalaya' benefiting a village in Nepal. The focus is on the education of young journalists in Kabul (video, radio and photo) with an emphasis on young women in the roles previously prohibited by Taliban extremists. In that brief time, he has developed a keen eye for capturing beautiful and poignant images on the street. Qiana Mestrich is a photographer and the creator of the popular Dodge and Burn blog, a site dedicated to work of photographers of color. Since she fell in love with photography at the age of 16, photography has been her obsession. Her professional career has involved her help other professionals to use social networking as a marketing tool, but it's her love for photography and the work on her blog that has helped to inspire her to return to school at earn her master's degree in photography at the International School of Photography in New York, where she is working to develop her own distinct photographic vision.

Ophelia Chong is an accomplished illustrator. A graduate of the Art Center College of Design, she has worked exclusively for Raygun Magazine and David Carson. As a creative director of The Workbook, she garnered five design awards for print by hiring talent and challenging them with a limited budget, but offering them an open field to create. She is represented by W+S+W/NYC for her illustration which has been in over six gallery shows and been published worldwide.

The Candid Frame #132 - Martin Bailey

Martin Bailey is a Tokyo based nature, wildlife and portrait photographer. He is the host and producer of the Martin Bailey Photography podcast, which supports a popular blog and forum. He also conducts workshops and photographic tours in Japan and abroad.

Born in London, England he immigrated to Japan and in 2010 became a Japanese citizen.

The Candid Frame #121 - Julia Dean

Julia Dean is a photographer, educator, and the founder of the Julia Dean Photo Workshops. Julia received a Bachelor of Science degree in photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in journalism at the University of Nebraska. She began her career as an apprentice to pioneering photographer Berenice Abbott. Later, Julia was a photo editor for the Associated Press in New York. She has taught for 29 years at such places as the University of Nebraska, Los Angeles Valley College, Los Angeles Southwest College, Santa Monica College, the Santa Fe Workshops, the Maine Photographic Workshops, Oxford University and the Julia Dean Photo Workshops. The Candid Frame #93 - Bruce Osborn

Bruce Osborn was born in Southern California and raised on its surf and skateboard culture. After graduating from the University of the Pacific with a BA in Fine Art, he studied Photography at Art Center College of Design. He began working for Phonograph Record Magazine as their photographer and photo editor and also did free lance photography for other music related businesses. In 1980 Bruce moved to Japan where he is a well known commercial photographer and filmmaker. He is most known for the Oyako project, which has provided him the opportunity to photograph Japanese parents and their children, to the point that it's become a national event. The Candid Frame #87 - Jay Maisel

Jay Maisel is acknowledged as a master of natural-light color photography . With a photographic career beginning in mid 1950's, His non-technical approach and his exceptional images have inspired countless photographers. Born and raised in New York City, many of these classic images have helped define the beautify of the city in a distinctive and memorable way. Based on his principle, "Light, Gesture and Color" he brings a sensibility which allows him to produce amazingly beautiful and revitting images from the unpredictable city street. The Candid Frame #83 - Darryl Sivad

Darryl Sivad picked up his first camera in high school. Richard Avedon invited Sivad to join him in New York City for a rare opportunity – a two-year internship. A delay in transitioning from Detroit to New York cost him that opportunity. However, highly regarded photographer Anthony Barboza did engage Sivad as an assistant.

It was here that Sivad was able to refine his own vision as a photographer. Sivad’s passion for photography continues alongside his career as an actor/writer. His images can also be seen in the following publications Black: A Celebration of Culture; I Shook Up the World; Saturday Night/Sunday Morning and Black Renaissance/Black Noire. Sivad has exhibited nationally including most recently at the UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History, the Leica Gallery, the Wadsworth Atheneum of Art, The African American Museum in Philadelphia, PA and the California African American Museum. His work is also in the permanent collections of the Museum of the African Diaspora and the Smithsonian Institute.

Sivad’s film and television career has included being a series regular, recurring and guest star on Friends, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Jamie Foxx Show, ER, The Naked Truth, NYPD Blue, Two and a Half Men, Talkin’ Dirty After Dark, Fear of a Black Hat and A Cinderella Story. The Candid Frame #81 - Richard Newman

Richard Newman for over twenty-five years, has worked as a photographer,writer, educator and printer. His work documenting the Exxon Valdez oil spill, in 1989 and 1990, is part of the White House photography archives and is part of the permanent collection at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

He has published three books on photography and been a contributor to two others. Richard's photographs, and writings, have appeared in Digital Photo Pro, View Camera, Lenswork,Outdoor Photographer, Professional Photographer Magazine, Storyteller Magazine,Rangefinder, and the Village Voice.
