The Candid Frame #133 - Warren Keating



Warren Keating is a painter whose latest works in the Overview series, are the result of collecting photographs and video of unwitting subjects from balconies in France, digitizing them on computer and painting them on canvas. 

Born in New Orleans in 1965, Keating won several regional awards in oil and watercolor painting and received more than a half-dozen commissions before reaching the age of 18. His work now reflects the culmination of 25 years of painting both the figure and the landscape.

The Candid Frame #132 - Martin Bailey

Martin Bailey is a Tokyo based nature, wildlife and portrait photographer. He is the host and producer of the Martin Bailey Photography podcast, which supports a popular blog and forum. He also conducts workshops and photographic tours in Japan and abroad.

Born in London, England he immigrated to Japan and in 2010 became a Japanese citizen.

His journey to becoming a full-time working professional photographer was chronicled through his podcast as was his recent health challenges. Jerod Foster is a Texas-based magazine/editorial and travel photographer. His photographic efforts focus on environmental portraiture and natural history, where he is able to devote visual resources to telling individual stories through the photographic medium and multimedia concerted projects. As an adjunct professor at the Art Center College of Design. I have the opportunity to see a lot of work from some up-and-coming photographers. I thought that I'd share the websites of some of the photographers who are currently in my class this term.

Brandon Osborn (www.brandonophoto.com)
Brandon Osborn has an eye for detail. His videos capture the subjects and presents a mood consistent with the idea presented in the video. He is talented with still and motion photography.

















Camillo Longo (www.camillolongo.com)
Camillo Longo is a photographer whose focus in on storytelling. He does so by making photographs with an emphasis on detail, history and research. 



Brian Pescador (www.brianpescador.com)

Brian Pescador mixed portrait with an interesting exploration of the urban environment, reveal vibrant image in common and unexpected places. 
Laurel Johnson is a diverse photographer who photographs fashion, portrait and food. However, she has a special affinity for interesting people, which can be found in her portrait series on roller derby athletes. 

The Candid Frame #128 - Gary Phillips



Gary Phillips is a mystery writer and the author of the popular Ivan Monk novels set in Los Angeles. His books include High Hand, Perdition USA and Bad Night is Falling. He has also written graphic novels and served as an editor on several anthologies including the Cocaine Chronicles. Though much of his work revolves around stories of "bad people doing bad things", his non-fiction work has also explored issue of race and culture, especially in the City of Angels, which he calls home.

The Candid Frame #126 - Russell Brown



Russell Preston Brown is a photographer who holds the unique position of educating photographers everywhere in the use of Photoshop. In his role as Senior Creative Director at Adobe, he has helped to teach people on the many creative possibilities available in this image-editing software. But it’s his role as guest-curator for the new exhibit, Digital Darkroom, which opens in December 2011 at the Annenberg Space for Photography that has inspired this conversation about an exceptional exhibit of photography. The Candid Frame #125 - Steve Simon


Steve Simon is a photojournalist and documentary photographer who has spent years photographing events both large and small. From political events, religious practices and cultural influences, he has rooted his work on the practice of telling stories both big and small. He is also an educator who has taught photography at the International Center of Photography in NewYork and the Loyalist College Photojournalism Program in Canada. He is also the recent author, The Passionate Photographer, a book which focuses on his personal approach to using personal projects to explore a photographer's ability to tell stories and improve their photographic skills. The Candid Frame #121 - Julia Dean


Julia Dean is a photographer, educator, and the founder of the Julia Dean Photo Workshops. Julia received a Bachelor of Science degree in photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in journalism at the University of Nebraska. She began her career as an apprentice to pioneering photographer Berenice Abbott. Later, Julia was a photo editor for the Associated Press in New York. She has taught for 29 years at such places as the University of Nebraska, Los Angeles Valley College, Los Angeles Southwest College, Santa Monica College, the Santa Fe Workshops, the Maine Photographic Workshops, Oxford University and the Julia Dean Photo Workshops.
